Man Charged with Animal Cruelty After Cat Loses Eye

Tomas Rascati admits injuring his father's pet but offers no explanation, police say.

A Plainfield man who so severely abused a pet cat that the animal's eye had to be removed has been charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal and criminal injury to a domestic animal.

Tomas Rascati, 21, 14920 S. Arnold St., was arrested by at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

He has admitted to abusing the cat but provided no explanation for his behavior, according to a media statement released by Police Chief John Konopek.

, a Plainfield veterinary clinic, alerted police to the case at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Konopek said. The clinic told police the cat's owner had brought the cat in with a severe eye injury and told them that his son, Rascati, was responsible.

The felony charges Rascati faces were approved by the Will County state's attorney's office. Rascati is being held in the Will County jail pending a bond hearing.
