Man Seriously Hurt in I-55 Crash Near Plainfield

Illinois State Police said one person was extricated and transported by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

A man was transported to an area hospital by helicopter following a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 55 early Wednesday.

Illinois State Police Sgt. R. Caves said the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on southbound I-55 south of Route 126 after one vehicle crashed into a wall.

When another motorist stopped to check on the disabled vehicle, that vehicle was hit by the semi, Caves said. The semi also struck the disabled vehicle, which had come to rest in the left lane with no lights on, according to police.
