No Fires, No Injuries This Past Fourth of July
This may be the safest Independence Day we've seen in years, fire district officials say, at least as far as firecrackers go.
It looks like people may be wisening up to widespread warnings about the dangers of setting off your own fireworks.
This Fourth of July was one of the safest local fire officials can remember. There were no reports of fireworks-related fires or injuries – at least none reported to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.
“It was a very quiet Fourth,” Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said. “Usually we’ll have at least one or two reports – a building will get to smoldering or something – but this year there were no reports stemming from fireworks at all.”

With spectacular professional pyrotechnic displays circling Plainfield’s horizon beginning the weekend before Independence Day, maybe people are finding it's best to let the pros handle the explosives.
