Plainfield Celebrates National EMS Week

Thank a first responder this week

Submitted by Plainfield Fire Protection District:

National Emergency Medical Services Week is May 19-25. This year’s theme is “EMS: One Mission. One Team.”

EMS Week gives all of us an opportunity to recognize and thank emergency medical service personnel that respond to life threatening medical emergencies every day. EMS personnel include first responders, emergency medical technicians/paramedics and emergency room doctors and nurses.

EMS personnel meet people during stressful situations from traffic accidents to life threatening medical conditions such as heart attacks or strokes and are always there ready to help.

In 2012, the Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to almost 3,000 calls for help involving medical emergencies. Calling 9-1-1 for help during a medical emergency increases a patient’s chances of survival because they will receive medical attention while en-route to the hospital by trained emergency medical personnel including paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

EMS week began in 1973 and was designated as a way to recognize and thank EMS personnel for their hard work and dedication.

Today we continue to recognize and thank our EMS personnel for everything they do to help us in our time of need. Please join the Plainfield Fire Protection District in thanking all EMS personnel everywhere.
