Plainfield Blaze Destroys Garage, Takes Down Power Line
The homeowner escaped unscathed, but the garage and two vehicles were a total loss, officials said.
High winds exacerbated a garage fire in the 23000 block of Grinton Drive early Sunday morning, destroying a garage, along with the two vehicles inside it, according to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said the detached 2-1/2-car garage was already well involved by the time firefighters were called just before 3 a.m.
Stratton said the homeowner awoke when she heard noises. She looked out her kitchen window and saw the flames already engulfing the garage, he said.
"By that time, somebody was banging on her door" to alert her to the flames, he said. "The fire was already through the roof of the garage."
The homeowner was unhurt, although the garage and two vehicles inside were a total loss, Stratton said.
The blaze also melted shingles on the roof of the home, located about 20 feet from the garage. "Thank God she had aluminum siding on the house," Stratton said. "If she had vinyl siding it could have been very bad."
The fire also took down a power line that was above the garage.
"It melted down a primary power line," said Stratton. ComEd workers were also called out to the scene early morning.
Stratton said crews were still on the scene as of about 8 a.m., working to determine the cause of the fire.
