Plainfield Man, 19, Charged in Iowa Sex Assault

Alce Smith, who graduated from Plainfield Central in 2010 and plays football for Waverly College, was arrested on one count of third-degree sexual abuse, published reports say.

A man attending college in Iowa has been charged with committing a sexual assault on campus, according to a report published in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Alce Eris Smith, 19, a student and football player at Wartburg College in Waverly, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony, in connection with an incident that took place on Oct. 27, the article said.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Bremer County Attorney Kasey Wadding, information from which was published by the Eastern Iowa News, the incident occurred in a residence hall room.

Smith “continually attempted to pursue the victim sexually while they watched a movie…,” the complaint said. Despite the victim refusing his attempts several times, Smith allegedly had forcible sexual contact with the woman, the Eastern Iowa New report quoted the complaint as saying.

Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on $10,000 bond Wednesday, the Courier story said.

According to information on the Wartburg College Athetics Web site, Smith graduated from Plainfield Central High School in 2010 and is a wide receiver on the college's football team.
