Plainfield Man Arrested on Warrants After Deputies Force Entry: Police

James Hammen was arrested on numerous charges late Friday.

Deputies had to force their way into the home of a Plainfield man wanted on several warrants, Will County Sheriff's police said Monday. Several weapons were also seized from the home during the incident, according to police.

James E. Hammen, 40, of the 13000 block of Naperville/Plainfield Road was taken into custody late Friday on charges including aggravated domestic battery, driving more than 25 mph over the speed limit, theft and aggravated assault, according to jail records.

Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said deputies were called to the scene after Plainfield police reportedly spotted Hammen in the driveway, but  said he went into the home and did not respond when police knocked on the door.

Hoffmeyer said Hammen's girlfriend had first called police July 3 after an alleged battery at the home that sent her to Edward Hospital.

According to Hoffmeyer, Hammen has also threatened to shoot someone with one of several weapons found in the house. She said police seized two pellet guns, two pellet rifles and an assault rifle, as well as various ammunition, from the home. Police said Hammen does have a valid FOID card.

After Hammen failed to comply with repeated orders to come to the front door, deputies forced their way into the home and took him into custody, Hoffmeyer said. She said police were able to see and positively identify Hammen through the window before entering the home. Hammen's girlfriend was also in the home at the time of the incident, and was unhurt, according to police.

Hammen is also charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic battery. He is due in Will County court on Wednesday and is being held on $158,000 bond, according to jail records.
