Plainfield Man Charged with DUI after Crashing from Overpass onto I-80

Michael Berta is listed in serious condition at Good Samaritan Hospital following the single-car accident, police said.

A Plainfield man whose vehicle went off an overpass, rolled down an embankment and crashed onto an Interstate 80 on-ramp was arrested on drunken driving charges Monday night.

Michael Berta, 44, was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was listed in serious condition, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Martez Malone told the Sun-Times Media Wire.

Police say Berta lost control of his vehicle at about 10:15 p.m. Monday while crossing an overpass on Center Street in Joliet. His vehicle rolled down a 50-foot embankment and came to a stop on the eastbound entrance ramp to I-80, the report said. No other vehicles were involved, police say.
