Plainfield Man Pleads Guilty to Hate Crime

Jacob D. Kozak was sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison after admitting to making threats and anti-Semitic comments in a March 2011 altercation with a neighbor.

A man was sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to a hate crime last week, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Jacob D. Kozak, 24, was accused of threatening to kill a Jewish neighbor and his wife, and making derogatory comments about the man’s heritage.

According to Plainfield police reports, Kozak , outside the home he shares with his parents in the 14900 block of Bartlett Avenue.

Police said Kozak made threatening remarks, including, “I’m going to kill you if you don’t get out of my neighborhood.”

According to the Sun-Times report, police said the altercation occurred after the neighbor walked by and said hello to Kozak while he was outside working on his car.

Appearing in Judge Richard Schoenstedt’s courtroom last week, Kozak pleaded guilty to a hate crime. The Plainfield man was accused of “bringing up the fact that [the neighbor’s] family is of Jewish descent" and threatening the couple with bodily harm, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.
