Plainfield Police Investigate Business Break-Ins

Three smash-n-grabs have been reported this month at Target, Plainfield liquor stores.

Police police are looking into several recent business burglaries and believe at least two of the crimes are related.

Det. Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said store windows were smashed during three late-night burglaries, the first of which was reported Oct. 8.

In that incident, someone broke a window sometime around 1:40 a.m. and entered Wallin Mini Mart, 14421 Wallin Dr.

Just more than a week later, on Oct. 16, a similar crime was reported at Vishna Plainfield Liquors, 14210 S. Route 30. This time, police responded to an alarm around 3:40 a.m. after a thief or thieves smashed a window.

In both incidents, an undisclosed amount of cash was taken, along with cigarettes and alcohol, McQuaid said.

“I would say it’s probably a strong bet that they’re related in some way,” he said. “It was similar stuff that was taken [in both incidents].”

A third commercial burglary was reported around 2:30 a.m. Friday at Target, 12800 S. Route 59.

In that instance, a window was smashed and electronics were stolen.

McQuaid said police are still working to determine exactly how many items were taken, and how much they are worth.

While there were no surveillance cameras at the two convenience stores, McQuaid said police were in the process of checking Target surveillance footage to see if the smash-and-grab was caught on camera.
