Sgt. Mike Fisher said there were “several” car burglaries on Eastern Avenue near downtown Plainfield. He estimated there were six or seven incidents, saying residents reported the burglaries early Friday.

“In the morning, people woke up and saw their cars were rummaged through,” Fisher said. “Anything of value was taken.”

While several of the vehicles had been left unlocked, the burglar or burglars smashed windows to gain entry to others, according to police.

Fisher declined to release details on what was stolen. “We’re really not saying a whole lot, because it’s under investigation,” he said.

He urged residents to lock their vehicles and make sure not to leave valuables inside parked cars. “We also want to remind people to report suspicious activity,” Fisher said.

Reports of suspicious activity can be made by calling the Plainfield Police Department at 815-436-2341.

Police also offer "Lock It or Lose It" vehicle stickers to remind residents to lock their doors and remove valuable items, as well as to help police determine what vehicles belong in Plainfield neighborhoods.
