A man was injured Sunday night when he was bitten by a dog left outside the Plainfield 7-Eleven store, police said.

A man was injured Sunday night when he was bitten by a dog left outside the Plainfield 7-Eleven store, according to police.

Plainfield Sgt. Mike Fisher said the man was attacked after approaching the dog, which was tied to a fire hydrant outside the 7-Eleven, 14807 S. Route 59 (Route 59 and Route 126/Main Street).

The dog, described as a possible pit bull mix, bit the man in the hand and the leg, Fisher said. Police said the dog’s owner untied the animal and left the scene before officers arrived.
