According to ComEd's outage map, nearly 300 Plainfield customers east of Route 59 and south of 143rd Street were still without power late Wednesday morning due to damaged power lines.

The power reportedly went out around midnight when a vehicle struck a utility pole, according to ComEd spokeswoman Krissy Posey.

Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the car hit a pole on Naperville/Plainfield Road east of the railroad tracks. The accident involved a male driver who refused treatment at the scene, Stratton said.

The crash toppled the pole and left live wires across the roadway, prompting the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency to close the road, according to Stratton.

As of shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Stratton said the road remained closed, but would likely open shortly.

Posey said the outage affected more than 490 customers.

The utility company estimated that power would be restored to all customers by 11 a.m.
