Original story, 6:47 p.m. Sunday

A search was under way Sunday for a Plainfield teenager.

Maddelyn Cannon, 14, was last seen by her brother as she walked out to the mailbox at her family’s Barrow Lane home, according to family friend Debi Estopellas.

The teen, who goes by Maddy, never returned.

“She just didn’t come back,” Estopellas said, adding Maddy isn’t the type to wander off on her own.

“[This is] definitely out of character for her,” Estopellas said. “She has no shoes on, no money, she has no cell phone.”

Estopellas said Maddy's family realized she was missing almost immediately and contacted police.

Sgt. Mike Fisher said Joliet police brought in a bloodhound to assist with the search. The dog tracked the teen for a distance before losing the scent, Fisher said.

Police said Maddy may have been arguing with her mother before she left the house.

"We don't at this point suspect any foul play," Fisher said. "There was just a disagreement at the home, and she walked away."

Fisher said police continue to search for Maddy, and Chief John Konopek, who also heads up the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency, has also called out a PEMA search team to assist.

"We've got a pretty good feeling that she's still in the area somewhere," Fisher said.

Maddy Cannon is described as 5-foot-7, 125 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt with the words “God created, and I believe” on the front and “Creation Museum” on the back. She wasn’t wearing shoes when she walked out to the mailbox, Estopellas said.

The teen, who is homeschooled, may have been spotted walking east on 127th Street, not far from the family’s home in the Farmstone Ridge subdivision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Estopellas at 815-671-5830 or email findmaddycannon@gmail.com.

A Facebook page and Twitter account have also been set up to help find the teen.
