Plainfield Tobacco Store Busted for Selling Fake Pot

IHS Cigars and Tobacco on Route 30 was one of two Will County retailers caught selling synthetic marijuana this week, police said.

A Will County task force on Thursday seized 20 packages of synthetic marijuana from a Plainfield tobacco store after making a similar bust at a Joliet retailer, according to the Herald-News.

Members of the Cooperative Police Assistance Team (CPAT) executed a search warrant at IHS Cigars and Tobacco, 16200 S. Lincoln Highway, and discovered the stash of K-2, or synthetic marijuana, hidden behind a display rack of candy, police said.

“For some time there have been ongoing complaints made to local police and the warrant resulted from four drug buys there,” CPAT Director Mike Weber told the Herald-News, adding the drug, which contains toxic substances, was concealed in Scooby-Doo packaging. Click here to read the full article.

Ismat Allan, 52, of Alsip, was arrested and charged with four counts of manufacture/delivery of a lookalike substance and one count of possession of a lookalike substance, according to Will County jail records.

CPAT made a similar bust earlier in the day at Tobacco Loco, 421 Collins St. in Joliet, and arrested employee Mohammed Shaqeldi, 25, of Joliet, after undercover agents were able to purchase packets of K-2.

Both men were due in Will County court Friday afternoon.

A law banning the sale of synthetic marijuana took effect in January 2012, making both the possession and sale of synthetic marijuana a felony.
