Plainfield’s crime rate has stayed about the same

Plainfield's overall crime rate stayed pretty much the same from 2010, when it was at 13.8, to 2011, when it dropped slightly to 13.

The crime rate is the number of violent crimes that occur per 1,000 residents and is calculated by dividing the village’s total population by number of violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, assault), property crimes (burglary, larceny, car theft) and arson.

The numbers below are from the FBI's recently released its 2011 Uniform Crime Report, which compiles information from local law enforcement about violent crimes and property crimes in their communities.

Each year when Crime in the United States is published, some entities use reported figures to compile rankings of cities and counties. These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime in a particular town, city, county, state, or region. Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents. Valid assessments are possible only with careful study and analysis of the range of unique conditions affecting each local law enforcement jurisdiction.
