Police Accreditation Team Invites Feedback on Plainfield PD

Share your input on the local police department at a public information session on Monday, Aug. 19.

The Plainfield Police Department is seeking to renew its accreditation, and it's asking for the public's help.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive Sunday, Aug. 18 to examine all aspects of the Plainfield Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.  

Verification by the team that Plainfield Police Department meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards is a voluntary process to gain accreditation — a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

As part of the assessment, agency personnel members of the community are invited to offer comments at public information session at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Plainfield Police Department Multi-Purpose Room, 14300 S. Coil Plus Dr.

Those who cannot make it to the public information session can still provide comments to the assessment team by telephone.  he public may call (815) 267-7217 between 3 and 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Anyone who wishes to offer written comments about the Plainfield Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

The Plainfield Police Department has to comply with 188 standards in order to gain accredited status. Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
