Police Crackdowns Coming; You've Been Warned

Plainfield officers will be writing tickets for seat belt and train crossing violations in the coming week.

Consider yourself warned: If you get a ticket this week for not wearing your seat belt or stopping too close to the railroad tracks, it will be your own fault.

Plainfield police have announced they will be conducting two enforcement campaigns. The first is a railroad grade crossing during which drivers will be ticketed for disobeying railroad signals or stopping beyond the white railroad grade crossing line or on the tracks themselves.

No date for the crackdown has been announced other than it will be one day this week. Typically, police target the Route 126 train crossing east of Route 59. Anyone who is ticketed must appear in court and could be fined up to $750.

The second campaign, a "Click It or Ticket" seat belt enforcement, begins Monday and continues through Halloween.

Police will be doing check by foot and by car both during the day and at night to catch drivers who are in violation of the occupant restraint laws, which includes failing to wear a seat belt or to properly restrain children or other passengers.
