Police Issue 556 Tickets for Seat Belt Violations

The 's been busy. Here's a roundup of the latest news:

  • The Click It or Ticket campaign conducted between June 17 and July 4 netted a whopping 556 restraint citations, 63 of which were for violations of the child passenger safety act (i.e. children riding in vehicles without being properly restrained).

The crackdown was funded with federal traffic safety money distributed through the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.

  • The police department has started using an Internet Web site called IDThisPerson.com as a way to help solve identity theft, retail theft and credit card fraud cases. Essentially, police departments post photos of suspects whom they cannot identify. Anyone who identifies someone will receive a $25 reward.
  • CN Railroad's "Little Obie" train ride will be at Plainfield Fest this coming weekend thanks to a request made by the police department. It's similar to a hayrack ride, and can transport both children and adults.

There is no cost for the 10-minute rides, which you pick up on downtown Fox River Street. It will be operating from 5 to 9 p.m. July 15, noon to 8 p.m. July 16 and noon to 6 p.m. June 17, weather permitting.
