Police on Massive Plainfield Marijuana Grow Operation: 'He Had to Have Help'

Plainfield police said the Tipperary Lane was "strictly a grow house." Quy Doan, 30, of Romeoville is charged in connection with the drug operation, and the investigation is ongoing.

It took a crew of 20 men and more than eight hours to break down what police called an “extensive,” million-dollar marijuana grow operation at a house in Plainfield’s King’s Crossing subdivision Tuesday.

In the end, Plainfield police and Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized 118 marijuana plants — some three to four feet tall — plus 65 pounds of loose marijuana and 178 ecstasy pills from the home at 12914 Tipperary Ln., according to Plainfield Sgt. Mike Fisher.

Those numbers were higher than the initial report released Wednesday by police, who searched the home, believed to be a marijuana greenhouse operated by 30-year-old Quy Doan, for hours.

Read:

“I think we were there until 2 a.m. [Wednesday],” Fisher said. “He just had thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of equipment,” Fisher added.

Doan also may have had help.

“It’s hard to have an operation that big on your own, so it is an ongoing investigation,” Fisher said.

Police and DEA agents conducted a search of the Tipperary Lane house while Doan was being detained during a traffic stop shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“We had surveillance on him,” Fisher said. “As he was leaving the neighborhood, I stopped him to detain him.”

Meanwhile, police and agents descended on the home, uncovering drugs with an estimated street value of more than $500,000, not to mention an elaborate growing system.

“The whole house was reconstructed,” Fisher said. “The master bedroom had another room inside of it just for sun lamps.”

Plumbing for the grow operation’s water system ran through the entire house, and Fisher said Doan had tunneled through the foundation to tap into electricity before it reached the meter, so that the operation’s massive power usage wouldn’t draw notice — or rack up a huge electric bill.

“I’ve seen it attempted before, but it is extremely dangerous,” Fisher said of the tactic.

Police said it took hours to dismantle the pot greenhouse and load up all the evidence, from heat lamps to commercial dehumidifier units and air conditioning units.

“That’s six hours with probably 20 guys loading trailers with equipment,” to give an idea of the operation’s scale, Fisher said. “[Doan] had to have help.”

While Doan ran his marijuana-growing operation out of the Plainfield home, police said, jail records list his address as 298 Zinnia Dr., Romeoville.

Police don’t believe drugs were being sold out of the Tipperary Lane house.

“This was strictly a grow house,” Fisher said. “There’s no indication they were making sales out of this house.”

Fisher credited a Plainfield officer who works closely with the DEA’s Chicago team with uncovering the massive grow operation.

“We went from knowing nothing about it to serving a warrant on a major grow house thanks to his hard work,” Fisher said.

Doan is charged with manufacture/delivery of 50-200 grams of schedule I and II substances, producing 50-200 cannabis plants, manufacture/delivery of more than 500 grams of cannabis, possession of 2,000-5,000 grams of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance — all felonies.

According jail records, Doan was still in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Center on Thursday. Bond information was not immediately available.

Police said there is also no indication that the Tipperary Lane grow house has any connection to another Tuesday night drug bust.

Brothers Oudam and Robert Thou were arrested on felony charges after Will County’s Gang Suppression Unit seized more than 8,400 grams of marijuana and 1,500 grams of suspected synthetic marijuana from a home in the 1900 block of Hampton Court in Plainfield Township, police said.

Also seized in the Hampton Court raid were two semi-automatic handguns, $700 in cash and a 2007 Lexus, according to police.

That's sarcasm...just in case your ego wont let you belive that...
John Roberts February 1, 2013 at 02:11 pm
Even the amount of the street value is Way way off...more than likely it was being sold by the pound..not by gram...92 plants that 184oz roughly...that's 16 oz to a pound that's 11 pounds..if he had someone he had to take e whole stash then the price is dropped even more..like anything bulk even in the stores..the more you buy the less it costs...Now it still does not add up even at $4000 a pound...and e X pills are what $20 each..that's only $2000 ..lmao...All of this profit, money numbers, wasting resources of hard working police to catch real criminals all ends with the understanding there will always be drugs and regulation of the drugs takes the profits from criminal gangs this is a proven fact..
John Roberts February 1, 2013 at 02:22 pm
Now let's really add this up..hours of police work..how much overtime pay?the fuel for the vehicles, the stake out costs, then to house the inmate for 1 year is $42,000 and if the inmate is transferred 5 times in a year that's $42,000 each transfer...Now with most prisons becoming private and collecting from the state..Is means the start of the "great prison shuffle" why wouldn't ya transfer prisoners by the month..after 30 days that another $42,000...if it keeps going we will all be in prison for not using a turn signal...and thanks to the prison lobbiests Obama gave jobs too when he (supposedly got rid of lobbiests) like he gave Monsantos Lobbiest the job as Head of the FDA..and Monsanto and their chemicals have been kicked from 28 countries...Wake up People...this is a waste of resources,we know we will never win against drugs, peoples habits, the only thing happening is the law abiding citizen has to deal with more and more restrictions....Know why it's hard to get the pain pills you need that you know help? "the war on drugs".. Second Ammendment being debated? "war on drugs" just to try and stop someone from smoking a joint..As the U.S. government is shipping Billions of dollars of drugs to the U.S.What do we do with all of the Opium we took from Afghanistan? Our troops were protecting? Ever hear of "Fast and Furious scandal"?.Cartels ship drugs to the U.S. And the U.S.gets info on other cartels..with permission from U.S. government..But the citizens are the criminals lmao.
John Roberts February 1, 2013 at 03:30 pm
And I am not tying to bash my government,I love my country and it's meanings...I respect law enforcement I don't want to have to fight people everyday to see who's the boss,we chose a force to enforce laws that do make for a less chaotic way of living...But we have to ask ourselves these 2 very important question and you will all know why I talk so much about regulation of the drugs..it is not to give permission to just go be a junky..thoes who use drugs will and thoes who don't wont...Questions being...What are the 2 things we catch most gang members and criminal organizations with? Question 2 what are the 2 things the governments local, state, and federal have or trying to make the hardest to get a hold of causing the objects to rise in prices and and violence caused by trying to get a hold of these objects?..Answer..Drugs and Guns..take the profit of drugs from gangs it's more worth it to go get a Jobthan it is to sell stuff for a couple dollar profit....There is teenagers that have sold more drugs than most people seen in their lives and bought houses, cars, and have thousands of dollars stashed away.and not even out of high school..Also we have to look at why people get high..To alter the body..A cold is an altercation of the body..we do not like it so we take something to alter the cold effect..in turn is a form of getting high.a "Fix"..Tylenol it kills 150 people each year.look at all the side effects of these chemical drugs..some way worse than the drugs that are illegal
John Roberts February 1, 2013 at 04:47 pm
And also.lol ...in states where they bust grow houses they do not send 20 people to break down a set up...The police smash it all...Why? Because at the end of trial, sentence you can get all of your grow equipment back. And sell it or use it again,There was law suits where people sued the state for their plants back in Michigan...and they won..also a bill was just introduced in Kentucky to bring back Hemp..

Thanks John Roberts. It's good to see that someone else in our area understands all of this. I don't smoke Marijuana but I know that people who do are usually not violent or dangerous. Marijuana is plant that grows naturally and is incorrectly identified as a drug. Hopefully, Illinois can follow the lead of Colorado & Washington State soon.

Realy John, how about a simple sigh of relief and a thank you for the Police ridding the area of a "grow house"? I bet your reaction to something like this going on next door to you would be A-OK as long as it dosen't cost to much eliminate. You have spent way to much time commenting on this issue.

boy cured with brain cancer after being fed Marijuana...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1383240/Boy-brain-cancer-cured-secretly-fed-medical-marijuana-father.html Now all of you do your self a favor and go look up the blogs people have been putting up using marijuana for curing cancer...Know why they have to blog it?...Because the federal government banned all medical practitioners from researching marijuana and documenting a marijuana users usage for a medical purpose....YOur not even allowed in court to say your a cancer patient Nor are you allowed to use any form of sickness for your defense in using marijuana...Thus is why everyone saying their throwing medical marijuana cancer patients in jail and what are they doing?...Dying...all of you are ignorant...and pass knowledge on as ramblings...and you will stay uneducated is my guess until you yourself get cancer or your kids do and watch how fast you want to try marijuana..I know people who used it and still use it for cancer...but just ignore this too and move on your uneducated asses..
John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 01:08 pm
You try sleeping with 14 surgeries all done around your nerves..You try watching your friends die in a hospital from cancer knowing you couldn't tell em about marijuana because you would of been taken from your parents and been a ward of the state...And knowing if you did become a ward of the state your ass was going to die...And try sleeping
John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 01:09 pm

John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 01:11 pm

John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 01:17 pm
And just to let you all know..My chemo and radiation treatments had to be stopped...Know why? Because the treatments were doing more damage than good to my body...because of the treatments I had 2 neck surgeries and 2 ear surgeries..they cut my ears and pulled them forward like a plaf and I got 120 staples behind each ear..while goin through treatments...then they decided I was going to die if I kept it up...Try to understand that at 8 ...I did..I knew I was dying I told my mom I was...and that's when my grandma had enough and gave me marijuana...
John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 01:21 pm
Shroom you know the magic mushroom...yep that's been used in end of life treatments..not like here where you sit in a hospital bed for 3 days no food and ya get morphine to pass away to "make you comfortable" ...when shrooms were used people died with SMILES ON THEIR FACES".....Just because our government says they are drugs does not mean they do not serve a purpose...

I had cancer when i was 8 Let me ask this simple question....Ever give your parents and little brother a kiss good night at 8yrs old and walking to your bedroom thinking when I lay down I have a feeling I am not going to wake up?..That's what cancer did to me..that's how I thought when I was 8yrs old...you all wanna know why i see things differently...Try watching your friends die in Childrens Memorial Hospital knowing your getting marijuana like I was from my grandmother who had enough..and could not say anything because you would of been taken from your parents and died in the hands of the state....Live with that...See if you don't wake you up to all of the crap going on...at 8 watch all of your family cousins,,friend get stronger as you get weaker....Ever lay down at 8 yrs old and pray that the god you believe in just ends all of it and takes you away? At 8yrs old...If you have a child at 8 who is dealing with cancer...listen to them...they probably feel the same way...when my grandmother gave me marijuana I started to eat, which you can not do when going through chemo, radiation and Spinal taps 3 times a week, losing all your hair, weighing 35 pounds at 8 .....and see if you can live your life being quiet about marijuana after watching your friends die...
John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 02:42 pm
To all that think I am extreme...I use education for my comments..6 years of studying drugs, users, and usages of drugs, violence, gang bangin..and their all connected...
I say what I say to get the reviews, intellect, and knowledge of my "Fellow citizens" the ones out here being shot as bystanders, kids sheltered because you can not let them go around your neighborhood because of this violence, drugs and it's blowbacks... While you all might think I am extreme I am not the ones running around with assault rifles, tanks, armored vehicles driving through houses to try and stop someone from smoking marijuana...I am not the one killing people everyday in drug raids in front of their kids, nor am I the one filling the prisons up with drug users and dealers...We do not see this as extreme?....I am the one bringing this to the attention of people and I can see why government gets away with it...because people pass things off that are too complicated to understand and only give a crap if it concerns em.This is extreme behavior.I am a realist not an extremist..there is a difference ..people need to look them up and find the difference.I am speaking knowledge of this subject not get an assault rifle and kill people like the police and the other entities are doing.get it right but this might be too much to comprehend for most of you I see so I expect your quick, short snooty comments..and I know you all will just keep on wondering why gang violence is so bad,or where all of our money is going..
Hugo February 2, 2013 at 04:30 pm
Blah blah blah
John Roberts February 2, 2013 at 04:39 pm
Very educated reply very educated...and you dont think you and people like you are part of e problem?...
Please explain your part, your education on the subject..since you seem to have none but a uneducated reply...Please tell me how I am WRONG.IS ALL I ASK...Tell me how this 40 year war on drugs has helped...I would love to hear it...or should I just expect some more uneducated responses...your posts all of them lack knowledge but are the first to try and discredit someone...like a politician..

I am just wondering how long this suspense filled soap opera will continue? Bottom line: HurtadoRead More knew his buddy needed a job...so; he and his majority board members made a mockery of local government due process and gave Mr. Peck a job, even though Hurtado voted with the past board to unanimously select an Exec…who is still under a contract. And then decided there was a need to pay a board secretary (who jumped out of the frying pan…smart move) and then appointed someone without pay. And of course there is a need to have a paid political hack to help publicly spin the board’s craziness via press releases.
AlaskaDreaming June 17, 2013 at 12:22 pm
I hate to ask the obvious of Mr. Peck (not that I expect him to answer anyway), but why is thisRead More announcement coming from the Executive Director rather than our newly appointed Director of Communications?
Bad News Bears June 18, 2013 at 02:53 pm
Mr. Peck, please answer 2 questions for me: 1. If you are cutting $800K but AdministrativeRead More Salaries are up over $118K, where are the cuts coming from. I have always been a patron of the Park District and want to know which of my programs your skimming off to pay yourself and Mr. Booth. 2. "Our staff deserves a lot of credit for this budget,” Peck said, “as their efforts to hold the line wherever possible have led to our success on behalf of District residents." Is reducing hours of employees the way you reward your staff now? I'm very upset that you honestly thought that cutting loyal employees hours instead of offering benefits was a good idea. I have a better one, cut the hours of Mr. Booth who has an unnecessary job and use his pay and salaries to offset the 4 loyal part-time workers. I will not hold my breath for your answers since answering questions to the people who pay your salary isn't on your to do list
