Railroad Crossing Crackdown on Thursday

Plainfield, Canadian National Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad police will conduct enforcement at at-grade crossings throughout Plainfield.

In an effort to prevent death and injuries at grade-level railroad crossings, the Plainfield Police Department is joining with Canadian National and Union Pacific railroad police on Thursday to take part in International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD).

The international campaign is aimed at educating motorists and enforcing traffic laws at crossings.

The campaign is to drive home statistics showing that most deaths and injuries at grade-level crossings are the result of misuse by motorists and pedestrians, according to a press release issued by the Plainfield Police Department.

The motto of Thursday’s enforcement is “Act safely at level crossings.”
