Woman Nabbed in Thanksgiving Day Home Burglary

The woman drew the police suspicion because she seemed out of place in the residential neighborhood, Sgt. Mike Fisher said.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

When spotted a lone woman seated in a car that seemed out of place Thursday night, they decided to check it out -- and nabbed a suspected burglar in the process, Sgt. Mike Fisher said.

Ruby M. Sanders, 44, 205 S. Main St., Algonquin, was arrested and charged with residential burglary after she gave police a story about what she was doing in a residential area on Rockefeller Drive that "didn't add up," Fisher said.

They decided to check on the one dark house in the cul-de-sac where she was parked and found that a window had been pried open and the home ransacked, he said. They recovered items believed stolen from the house in Sanders' car, he said.

Fisher did not know what had been stolen, but said that Sanders has an "extensive criminal history."

He acknowledged that the late afternoon burglary, which took place shortly before 5 p.m. in a neighborhood just off 135th Street and Van Dyke Road, was bold given that all of the other homes on the cul-de-sac were occupied.

"Sometimes when you act like you belong, look like you belong, and no one pays attention to you," Fisher said.

Sanders was also charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license. She's being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.
