Cops Make Another Extreme Driving Arrest on Rt. 59 -- This One for 123 mph

A Lisle man was charged with aggravated driving at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

You thought driving 108 mph down Route 59 was excessive? That's nothing compared to what the Plainfield police say they nabbed Abdelhalim Khoga doing in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Plainfield Police Officer Michael Friddle said he clocked Khoga doing 123 mph at about 2:35 a.m. on a southbound stretch between 119th Streeet and 127th Street.

That's 78 miles over the 45-mph speed limit.

Put another way, it's 180 feet per second -- the equivalent of crossing a football field in just 1.66 seconds, Traffic Sgt. Eric Munson said in a media release Thursday afternoon.

Khoga, 24, of Lisle, was also charged with aggravated driving and operating an uninsured vehicle. If he's convicted of the Class A driving misdemeanor, he could receive a jail term of up to a year, a fine of up to $2,500 and the loss of his driver's license.

Khoga was driving a Honda Accord, the same make of car as the 17-year-old Plainfield teen who was arrested and charged with aggravated driving on March 29. The teen, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was caught doing 108 mph on Route 59, just north of 135th Street, at about 1:45 p.m.
