Several Streets Closed Sunday for Irish Parade

If you're looking for parking, use the PCHS lot or the two village lots downtown, police say.

If Plainfield's annual is not your thing, you'd be wise to avoid downtown Plainfield and the area around Plainfield Central High School from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, say.

There will be no parking along the parade route starting at 6 a.m. Sunday. The parade starts at , travels north on James Street to Lockport Street; east on Lockport Street to Illinois Street; south on Illinois Street to Commercial Street; and west on Commercial Street to James Street back to PCHS.

These streets will be closed starting at 12:30 p.m.

  • James Street from Fort Beggs Drive to Lockport Street
  • Lockport Street from Main Street (Route 126) to Route 59
  • Illinois Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
  • Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street
  • Chicago Street from Illinois Street to Fox River Street
  • Ottawa Street from Illinois Street to James Street
  • Des Plaines Street from Oak Street to Ottawa Street
  • Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street

The parade will last about an hour, organizers say, and the affected streets will be reopened once the parade has cleared the area. However, Des Plaines Street between Oak and Chicago streets will remain closed until 6:00 p.m. for after-parade activities.

The public can park at Plainfield Central and at the village lots on Des Plaines Street (across from the old Plainfield Fire Protection District fire station) and on Illinois Street, next to the .

Handicapped parking will be available at 15025 S. Des Plaines St. and on the north side of Chicago Street between Illinois and Des Plaines streets.
