A Romeoville man died Wednesday afternoon when the delivery truck he was driving struck the back of a semi-trailer on I-55 just south of the Weber Road exit near Bolingbrook.

Walter J. Martineck, 47, was pronounced dead at 3:41 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner's office.

Illinois State Police said the crash occurred when Martineck's box truck rear-ended a semi-trailer, sending the semi into a passenger vehicle.

Three other people — one person from the passenger car and two from the semi — were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.

My husband worked with Wally and has been in that same truck and route on many occasions. I am very sorry for Wally's family, I did not personally know him but it seems like he was very much the family man. I agree that we should all refrain from speculating on the cause of the crash until the State Police are finished with their investigation.

The Other Christine, my comment was sarcastic also, in case you missed that.

I met Walter last year in Puerto Vallarta. He and Kim won a 3 night stay with Eric & Kathy from The Mix radio station. He was funny and well liked. I heard he was in Los Cabos this year again with the Eric & Kathy show. I wasn't able to go this year, but am sure he was just as fun this year. I was shocked when I realized who was driving the truck. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Karah-- I'm am so,so sorry for your loss. Your dad was THE NICEST, most sincere person I've ever met. I was his realtor and spent many hours with him. He adored you and your kids, always showing me new pictures. When I heard this on the news this morning, I am just in shock! My prayers are with you and your family.

I keep hearing that people are bashing my father. If so, please, pray for yourself because you need God. My father was not on his phone nor speeding. Something tragic happened and me being his daughter, I am fighting for answers. So please. Pray for yourself as you will need it in the future
