Storm Takes Down Power Line, Building Facade

The incidents took place within a 45-minute period; one was on Joliet East Side near Cass and Henderson and the other was at Washington and Park in unincorporated East Joliet.

The high winds that came with Sunday's storms tore off the brick facade and awning of a building on Joliet's East Side and brought down a power line in East Joliet.

The latter incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. in an area near Washington Street and Park Road, near a residential area.

Trish Craig lives across the street from where the wire went down.

"We were standing outside and all of a sudden we saw like a great big green flash, and it looked like the transformer fell to the ground and it just caught on fire," Craig said. "It was scary."

The second incident occurred about 45 minutes laster, when at building at the corner of Cass Street and Henderson Avenue lost its brick facade. An awning that read, Los 3 Hermanos, was also torn away from the building.

Todd Sherman contributed to this report.
