Suspects Sought in RoSal's, Tortilla Flatz Burglaries

Police say both break-ins were "smash and grabs" in which the burglar headed straight to the register and absconded with cash.

continue to investigate a rash of Thanksgiving night burglaries in which money was taken from two restaurants and a window broken on a private school bus, Police Chief John Konopek said.

The "smash and grab" break-ins occurred overnight Nov. 27 at and , both located in the strip mall at 13717 U.S. 30. , a pre-school/after-school center, is located not far from there at 24829 W. 135th St.

Given the locations, police believe the incidents are likely related, Konopek said.

The suspect or suspects entered the two restaurants by breaking out a front doors, he said. They headed straight to the cash registers and did not take anything else, he said.

All three incidents were discovered the next day. Konopek declined to say how much money was stolen.

While it's been a while since there's been a commercial burglary in Plainfield, the chief said, Thanksgiving night was a busy one for criminals in the village. It was the same night that four men allegedly broke into and , stealing electronics and athletic gear, and an is accused of burglarizing a house near 135th Street and Van Dyke road.
