Teen Linked to Plainfield Vehicle Burglaries: Cops

Unlocked cars targeted near Route 126 and I-55, police said.

A Crest Hill teen arrested Tuesday is allegedly linked to several vehicle burglaries, Plainfield police said.

Robert Martin, 18, of the 2400 block of Waterford, Crest Hill, is charged with burglary, criminal trespassing to a vehicle, purchase/possession of liquor by a minor, and possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, according to jail records.

Sgt. Mike Fisher said Martin is charged in connection with vehicle burglaries near Bass Lake Road and Hunt Club Lane.

Fisher said police responded to reports of burglaries early Tuesday morning in the subdivision, with a total of 11 unlocked vehicles targeted. Some vehicles had just been rummaged through, while items were stolen from others, Fisher said.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Martin's vehicle just outside the neighborhood at around 3:44 a.m. Tuesday. Fisher said stolen items from several of the burglarized vehicles were in Martin's car.

Martin remained in custody at the Will County jail Wednesday, according to jail records. Bond information was not immediately available.
