Teenage Bicyclist Struck By Car on Lockport Street

Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to the crash early Monday night. The teen was listed in stable condition at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

A 14-year-old girl was transported to an area hospital Monday night after being struck by a vehicle on Lockport Street, according to Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton.

Stratton said the girl was riding with another teen on Lockport Street just east of the railroad tracks when she was hit by a car at around 7:20 p.m. The teenager struck the vehicle's windshield so hard that it shattered, he said.

"She came up over the hood and hit the windshield — I guess she actually took out the windshield," he said.

According to Stratton, the teen was alert and walking around when paramedics arrived. She was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, Stratton said.

No other details about the crash were available Monday night.

Editor's note: The age of the teen was initially reported incorrectly. We apologize for the error.
