Ten People Displaced, One Dog Dead in Afternoon Blaze in Crest Hill

The wind exacerbated the fire, which started on the outside of the building and spread through the four-unit building's vinyl siding, Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said.

Ten people have been displaced and one dog reported dead in a fire that occured in the 2300 block of Aster Drive, Crest Hill, Plainfield Fire Deputy Chief Jon Stratton said.

The fire occured at 3:44 p.m. at a four-unit town home. The fire originated on the exterior of the building and headed into the common-area attic, said Stratton.

"The fire pretty much started outside on the vinyl siding. And with this wind it just ran right up," said Stratton.

He said one of the residents had left a porch door open and the fire got into the porch area and "communicated through the structure there."
