Three Badly Hurt in U.S. 30 Head-on Collision Saturday

An Illinois State Police spokesman said they are trying to determine what caused a driver to cross the center line and strike an oncoming vehicle.

Three people were hospitalized Saturday night following a head-on collision on U.S. 30 near Heggs Road in unincorporated , Illinois State Police Sgt. R. Caves said.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. when one of the cars crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, Caves said.

The drivers of both cars were seriously injured and transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, he said. A passenger in the car that was struck was also seriously injured and taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, Caves said.

None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, he said. All of the people involved were adults; identities, ages and towns were not available Saturday night.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Traffic citations will likely be issued against the driver of the vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic, Caves said, but had not yet been written.
