Crossing Crackdown Thursday; 127th Street Crossing Closure June 13

Fair warning: Cops will be ticketing folks who violate laws governing train tracks and you'll need to follow detour signs at the 127th crossing for two weeks.

First, the sort-of bad news for drivers: Plainfield, Canadian National Railway and Union Pacific Railroad police will be conducting a train crossing law enforcement day on June 9.

It ties into International Level Crossing Awareness Day, and means that police will be handing out tickets for such infractions as stopping too close to the tracks, ignoring train warning signals and stopping on the tracks.

The far tougher news, however, is that the Canadian National Railway crossing and roadway at 127th Street, just east of Route 30, will be closed to all traffic for two weeks beginning at 6 a.m. June 13.

The closure is needed for the installation of a second rail line and reconstruction of the roadway. A detour route will be posted.

The crossing will reopen at 6:30 p.m. June 24.
