Plainfield Trio Nabbed for Breaking into Cars, Police Say

The three suspects had burglarized vehicles in the neighborhood in which they lived, Joliet police said.

Joliet police interviewed three men about their role in a possible car burglary in unincorporated Plainfield Tuesday night but were forced to let them go for lack of evidence.

But a not-so short while later, the suspects were stopped again — and this time officers found items stolen from the first car and another in their possession, Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Police were alerted to the situation by a resident in the 2600 block of La Brecque Drive, who heard a noise outside at about 11:30 p.m. and called police, Jensen said.

Officers found paper strewn all over the parkway and connected them to a house on the block, he said. The homeowner confirmed the paperwork had come from his car and that a CD audio book had been stolen.

Police spotted the three men a few blocks away and questioned them, but had nothing to tie them to the burglary, Jensen said.

They continued to canvass the area and came upon a second car break-in in the 2700 block of Joe Adler Drive, he said.

When officers pulled over the trio a second time about an hour and a half later, they found the suspects in possession of a bottle of Jack Daniels that had been taken from the second vehicle, Jensen said. The audio book was also inside their car, he said.

Arrested and charged with two counts of burglary were Zachary Murrin, 20, of 2613 Joe Adler Drive; Jorge Padilla, 19, of 2615 Sierra Drive; and Martin Bahena, 19, of 2702 Joe Adler Drive.

Murrin was also charged with transporting/carrying alcoholic liquor.

All three are being held in the Will County jail pending a Thursday bond hearing.
