Woman Arrested After Rollover Crash in Plainfield

Crash was discovered after a Plainfield officer happened upon the scene.

A Romeoville woman faces DUI charges after an early morning crash at Route 126 and County Line Road that left her car partially submerged in a creek, according to officials.

Illinois State Police Trooper Murray said police are not yet releasing the name of the woman, who is reportedly in her 40s. Murray said there were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the woman was driving west on Route 126 at around 3 a.m. when her vehicle left the roadway near the intersection at County Line Road. He said the vehicle traveled for a ways in the ditch before striking a culvert and rolling over.

"I'd say she traveled a good 100 feet in the ditch," Stratton said. "[The car] actually rolled over and was upside down with the front of the car in the creek, pointing up."

According to ISP, a Plainfield police officer happened upon the scene within a minute of the crash and spotted the vehicle in the ditch.

Stratton said the woman was crawling out the window of the overturned vehicle when police arrived.

Murray said she was taken to Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora as a precaution, and arrested upon her release Thursday morning. The woman is charged with aggravated DUI, DUI, driving on a suspended license and obstruction of justice.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
