About Town: Fridge Magnets and Yellow Dots Could Save Residents' Lives

File for Life is a new program offered through the police and fire departments that provides an easy way to make medical info available.

Local lifesavers are coming up with handy new ways to give rescuers a head start at times when every second counts.

To safeguard folks at home, there’s a new refrigerator magnet called the File for Life. You can tuck medical, prescription and emergency contact information inside a red magnetic pouch. A red sticker posted on the front window alerts ambulance crews, firefighters or police to look for the file on the fridge.

The Yellow Dot Program gives the same sort of on-the-spot access to vital info for people on the go. Just place the yellow dot on the rear windshield of your car to let medical personnel know they can find medical and personal information, along with a recent photo, in the glove box.
