April Election: Candidates Begin Filing for Plainfield Races

The deadline to submit petitions is Dec. 26.

Editor's note: This article was updated at 2 p.m. Dec. 18 to include candidates who have filed so far for the Plainfield Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners race.

Filing began Monday morning for the April 9, 2013 consolidated election, and some early bird candidates were the first to file for Plainfield races.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Dec. 26 to file.

As of late morning, the following candidates had filed their petitions:

Village of Plainfield

As of Monday, clerk Michelle Gibas said incumbents Jim Racich, Margie Bonuchi and Garrett Peck have filed petitions to seek re-election to the three trustee seats up for grabs in April.

Local developer Mike Guinta has also tossed his hat into the ring for the trustee race.

Village President Michael Collins, so far, is the only candidate to file for the mayoral race.

The trustee and village president offices carry a four-year term.

Plainfield School District

Two incumbents — Michelle Smith and Rod Westfall — are seeking another four years on the Plainfield School District Board of Education.

So far, joining them in the race for the four open positions are William Slabich Jr. and William Dargan Jr., who ran unsuccessfully for the school board in 2011.

Plainfield Library Board

According to Library Director Julie Milavec, two people filed early Monday to run for the four open seats on the library board of trustees: incumbent Mina Green and Plainfield resident Vicki Knight.

The library will host a filing lottery, which will be open to the public, on Jan. 2, 2013, Milavec said. Each seat has a four-year term.

Plainfield Park District

One candidate, Peter Steinys, has filed for the Plainfield Park District Board of Commissioners race.

There are two open seats, each carrying a four-year term. 

Plainfield Fire Protection District

Two candidates filed to run for the two open seats on Monday: David Hebert and James Lehmann.

Each seat carries a six-year term on the fire board.
