Board Shoots Down Plainfield Townhome Plan

Townhomes at Prairie Creek proposed for 64 acres near Route 59 and 135th Street.

Citing flood concerns, village trustees on Monday voted against the site plan for a 212-unit townhome development off of Route 59 and 135th Street.

The proposal called for the Townhomes at Prairie Creek to be built on 64 acres southeast of the Meijer store.

Village Planner Michael Garrigan said there was no support for the proposal, which drew concern from trustees over its proximity to the DuPage River and the fact that it is surrounded by floodplain.

Developer Ryan Homes planned to build on cement slabs to alleviate flooding issues.

The area is current zoned for mixed use, not residential.

Only trustee Bill Lamb was in favor of the proposed development which called for private streets, since the roads would be narrower than required by the village.
