The new park is being built at Norman Greenway on 135th Street.

Plainfield-area pets will soon have a new place to frolic, according to Plainfield Park District Executive Director Garrett Peck.

  • Peck said a new, yet-to-be-named dog park is being built at Norman Greenway north of 135th Street and west of Route 30.

Fencing went up last week at the three-acre park, which will be free for pet owners to use, similar to the dog park at Clow-Stephens Park on Lily Cache Lane. Guests are asked to make sure all dogs are up to date on their vaccinations. For now, Peck said, there will not be separate areas for large and small dogs.

The park district is planning a contest to name the dog park, Peck said, and is also looking into the possibility of finding a corporate sponsor for the facility.

Superintendent of Parks Gene Coldwater told The Enterprise that the cost of construction on the park is expected to be around $12,000. The project is slated to be completed by the end of the year.
