Village of Trustee Garrett Peck's lawsuit against a local Democratic party chairman has been moved to Will County.

Peck is suing Plainfield Township Democratic Chairman Mike Keniley over defamatory comments made on Patch more than a year ago, when Peck was running for state Senate.

Last winter, Peck, who recently resigned his position as Plainfield Park District executive director, sought the names of several commenters on Patch and Topix, an online discussion board. He alleged the commenters made false and defamatory statements accusing him of, among other things, beating his wife, having an affair, bribing police and using his position as a Plainfield trustee to win lucrative contracts for his company.

The lawsuit filed in October names only Keniley as a defandant.

The case was transferred to Will County from Cook County on Thursday. The suit is scheduled for case management on May 20 at the Will County Courthouse Annex, 57 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet.

I... have nothing to say that hasn't already been said :)

Suck it up Peck and go away!

Guess he have up on the other names, doesn't give himself much cred on if he can even confirm Kneily was correctly identified rather than assumed. Also, did you see what comes up when you even search for peck on google? Suicide, Islam bias, kidnapped by aliens... As a technology "consultant" he should contact google to fix those things lol.

MC - rock on with your bad self. Plenty of people know who I am, but it's nice to see you finally joined in on that rather large group. Hope to see you at one of the PTPD board meetings in the future.

No, I did not flag your comment. As you can see, mine is gone as well. 'Someone' has been on a mission to remove comments of posters they don't like, and it looks like you made it into that group too. I have supported the exact opposite of that, and wish as many people have the option to speak as want it, especially if you disagree with their opinions. As long as you are on the email notification for this thread, you will still see my comments in your email until they eventually show back up on the site. Now, is there anything about this actual story you would like to discuss?

Hi Tim, there is just one more thing to be said to demystify your postings ;)

Yet another compelling reason to vote Democrat, as if we need anymore.

I actually can't wait for the day when Peck and Hurtado keep their noses out of the news so I can open the patch without immediately seeing their smug faces #DreamingOfAPeckFreeUniverse

Peck may be too arrogant to realize that this suit gives the defense the need (and the financial backing of the Democratic Party) to PROVE that he beat his wife, had an affair or bribed police. It's common knowledge that used his position as a Plainfield trustee to win contracts for his company. Evidence or testimony that he did even ONE of these things would put the proverbial nail in his political career. Furthermore, since politics is politics and since he, a Repub, is suing a Dem, would make it more than likely enough incentive (as if any more is needed) for the Will County D.A. (who is Dem) to investigate the park district shenanigans of late. This could get some BIG press and even more negative publicity for Peck.

I think Garrett Peck is so past done politically that even the leftovers have been tossed out of the fridge. To anyone out there STILL thinking you need his backing or that he can help you more than hurt you not just in Plainfield, but beyond, and either in politics or business: borrow a clue. And, our school district 202 leadership should be looking very hard at the on-going contracts (I think for about $300K/year?) with Garrett Peck's MagikTech company. I understand that they get renewed annually because there's the whole "cheap install" or "cheap product" element in the decision, but in our economy and with the tech free market being what it is, I cannot believe there is not another, just as able if not moreso, and reasonably priced company to contract with for district 202's tech equipment needs. I'd personally love to see a veteran (a real one) get the business. Let someone who's served our country in uniform get the work and the money if at all possible. If nothing else, understand what the taxpayer understands, that sometimes the guy with the lowest bid is still not the best choice because of things underneath the dollars.
Larry Newton February 04, 2014 at 09:37 AM
Vicki, that's called "lowest responsible bidder" not necessarily the one who provides the lowest bid.
Vicky Polito February 04, 2014 at 10:20 AM
Well, heck, Larry Newton! I KNEW there was some fancy term for it! Thanks. Yes, of course there is always not just the leeway but the actual responsibility--I see this often at village meetings--to weigh factors that are also important along with the simple math in making the BEST choice, not the CHEAPEST choice.

Does anyone else get the feeling that peck is playing checkers, while his opponent is playing chess? This guy is nothing more than the town joke now.

If I were Mr. Keniley's counsel, I would suggest using what Garrett Peck sent the Patch about not being newsworthy when Garrett got mad about what was being shared on the site when he was playing grown-up for a few months at the park district. If it was lacking, why would it matter what anyone had to say? @JustAnOpinion and @Uptown, care to share your opinion with us?
Ericus Alanas February 04, 2014 at 01:40 PM
Jimmy, I am not even sure he has evidence it was Keniley, it may just be alleged until the court can subpoena Patch and Topix for the information to link it to Keniley. Most likely he didn't think he was going to get the information on the others, hence why he dropped the suit against the others and focused on Keniley.
Tim February 04, 2014 at 02:00 PM
@Ericus- Actually one of the other posters already had his day in court against peck, and beat him right out of the gate. The judge dismissed all of pecks claims against one of the posters. As far as who that poster was, I will let your powers of deduction figure that out.

Congrats Tim!

OK "Tim" hope to see you at one of the future PTPD board meetings too, maybe you could "bring the popcorn".
Lance Stevens February 07, 2014 at 11:12 AM
And remember this....Peck's right hand man, Mark Batinick is running for state rep...you think things were bad with Peck and the Park District, wait to Batinick gets to Springfield and alienates the Republicans in power with his extreme agenda and threats to state leadership... Good thing Tom Cross got all those roads built and infrastructure projects funded..cause if Batinick wins, Plainfield and Oswego are getting nothing..
Tim March 03, 2014 at 03:05 PM
Looks like peck is going to try to play lawyer here. According to Will County court records, he STILL doesn't have an attorney of record for this case. Either he plans on defending himself(HA!), or he is just filing this to get the publicity. In his mind, he seems to think this gives him good publicity... Remember, this is the same guy that tried suing someone that he said posted he 'beat his wife, and bribed the police' (those are his own words)... and LOST that suit when the other anonymous poster called pecks bluff and actually showed up in court, presented the case to the judge, and was able to get the suit fully dismissed. If anyone wonders why this 'man' is the town joke now, this is the starting point. It looks foolish enough for a grown-man to make accusations of 'cyber-bullying', but that foolishness turns into political suicide when you end up also losing the case you yourself filed.
