Garrett Peck's Libel Case Moves to Will County

Suit against a Patch commenter was originally filed in Cook County.

Village of Trustee Garrett Peck's lawsuit against a local Democratic party chairman has been moved to Will County.

Peck is suing Plainfield Township Democratic Chairman Mike Keniley over defamatory comments made on Patch more than a year ago, when Peck was running for state Senate.

Last winter, Peck, who recently resigned his position as Plainfield Park District executive director, sought the names of several commenters on Patch and Topix, an online discussion board. He alleged the commenters made false and defamatory statements accusing him of, among other things, beating his wife, having an affair, bribing police and using his position as a Plainfield trustee to win lucrative contracts for his company.

The lawsuit filed in October names only Keniley as a defandant.

The case was transferred to Will County from Cook County on Thursday. The suit is scheduled for case management on May 20 at the Will County Courthouse Annex, 57 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet.
