Goodson Named County Board's Majority Whip

The District 5 representative succeeds Laurie Smith, who is moving out of the state and giving up her board seat.

Lee Ann Goodson, a Will County Board member from Plainfield's District 5, has been named the board's Republican majority whip.

She was appointed by Majority Leader Jim Bilotta, succeeding Laurie Smith, who is moving out-of-state and leaving the board.

“I highly value Lee Ann’s perspective, and she has proven a strong leader for the constituents of Will County over her 10 years of service to this board,” Bilotta (R-Lockport) said. 

“In her role as the chair of the board’s legislative committee, she continually keeps us updated on the many pieces of legislation that affect local government proposed both in Springfield and Washington. I look forward to working with her to grow our county and continue to make it a great place to live and work.”

Lee Ann Goodson (R-Plainfield) was elected to the board in 2002. District 5 includes most of , southwest Wheatland Township and the northeast corner of Troy Township.  She chairs the legislative and policy committee and sits on the executive, public works and transportation committees.

Goodson works as an aide to state Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego).

“It is an honor to be selected for this leadership position, and in this new role as the assistant to the majority leader, I will continue to govern Will County through sound fiscal management and good public policy,” Goodson said. 

“We will cooperatively work together to help grow the economy by fostering an environment for job creation while holding the line on taxes and spending.”

Goodson was l of the Illinois Association of County Board Members and Commissioners last year. It was the first time a Will County Board member was chosen to serve on the nonprofit organization that assists the state’s counties in providing effective county governance.
