  • The splash pad, located at Village Green Park at Fox River and Chicago streets, was unveiled when the park district completed repaving and new landscaping at the park in 2010.

Now through Monday, residents are invited to guess how many gallons of water the splash pad uses per season. The person whose guess is the closest to the actual number will win a free family pool pass to the Ottawa Street Pool, good for the 2014 season. A family pool pass ordinarily costs $80 (resident).

The people with the second- and third-closest guesses will win a Plainfield Park District T-shirt.

All guesses must be submitted to this post on the Plainfield Park District Facebook page.

On Thursday, Peck said it would cost $130,000 to retrofit the splash pad with a poll-type filtration system to cut the bill. He said he was working on a press release with more information on the splash pad costs.

In the meantime, Plainfield-area residents can try their hand at guessing the number of gallons now through Monday, Nov. 11. All guesses must be in by 4 p.m.
