Hail to the Chief Vote-Getters in Our Presidential Poll

Barack Obama led with 31 percent of the vote cast, but not far behind were Herman Cain and Ron Paul.

On Friday, we asked readers to tell us who they would vote for were the . More than 475 people did, with current President Barack Obama dominating and faring the best among the announced Republic candidates.

Remember, this is not a scientific poll. People who voted did so voluntarily, and we have no way of knowing how representative they are of the public at large. However, the numbers are interesting and, especially in the Republican race, seem to mirror the feelings of voters in Illinois and across the country.

An Illinois straw poll, held Saturday, had Ron Paul winning with 52 percent of the vote. He won our poll as well. Mitt Romney and Herman Cain were close in the number of votes they received in the straw poll (although far behind Paul). It was not as close in our poll, with Cain placing a solid second and Mitt Romney taking weak third among GOP contenders.
