If You Like the July 4 Fireworks Show, Pony Up

The Plainfield Park District is asking for donations to foot the $17,000 bill for the display.

It’s time to pony up for our patriotic picnic.

Plans are under way for the ’s 4th Annual Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks, scheduled for July 3. And while they have volunteers willing to help with setup, publicity, insurance, cleanup and security, what they really need from you this year is cash.

A lot of cash, actually. At least $17,000 to fund the fireworks display.

While there is a core group of contributors who regularly steps up to fund the fireworks, officials say, they need to spread the cost around. We all appreciate the support and the use of facilities contributed by community institutions such as the Plainfield School District, Plainfield Fire Protection Agency, Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Emergency Management Agency and St. Mary Immaculate Parish.

But they’re looking for grassroots giving.

“This year, the assistance of all who believe that this is a valuable community event is being requested. Every contribution, no matter what the size, is appreciated,” organizers said in a press release issued last week.

If you want to make a contribution, send it to the Plainfield Park District, Attn: Patriotic Picnic, 23729 West Ottawa St., Plainfield, IL  60544.
