Editor's note: The following is a press release issued by the Plainfield Public Library District.
Carl F. Gilmore and David Schmidt were appointed by the Plainfield Public Library District Board of Trustees on Wednesday, September 19 to fill the vacant positions left by the resignations of Mary Stevens and Mary Frances Wilkens, for unrelated personal reasons, over the summer.
The newly appointed trustees will serve in the unexpired terms through April 2013, when the seats will be up for election. The two candidates were interviewed at the regular meeting of the Board and appointed by unanimous votes.
Gilmore is an instructor and administrator at Joliet Junior College. In his letter of interest to the Board, he stated: “I am a great fan of the library and would like to contribute in a more direct way to its continued excellence in providing service to its patrons and the community at large… Plainfield is a wonderful community, and it needs a thriving library to help it continue to grow.”
Schmidt is an architect and proprietor of Schmidt Architects in Plainfield. In his application to the board he stated: “I would very much value the opportunity to be involved in the decision-making procedures that build upon [the library’s] current and future successes… I have a vested interest in assuring that the public, cultural staples of our community are being well-looked after.”
“As an elected board, it’s unusual to have the opportunity to appoint Trustees. We’re fortunate that the Board had excellent candidates who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” said Library Board President Sharon Kinley.
