Major Rebuilding of Caton Farm Starts March 25

The reconstruction of Caton Farm Road between Drauden and County Line Road, being overseen by Will County, won't be finished till fall 2014.

The Will County Highway Department will begin work reconstructing Caton Farm Road from Drauden Road to County Line Road on March 25, according to the city of Joliet.

The $7.4 million project, which will be done by P.T. Ferro Construction Co., will create a five-lane cross section -- two lanes in each direction and a center turn lane -- with curb and gutter, storm sewer, sidewalk on the north side of Caton Farm Road and a multi-use path on the south side of Caton Farm
Road, the city's news release said.

There will also be a permanent traffic signal installed at the intersection with County Line Road.

The work will be completed in stages and, while there will be daily lane closures, there will always be one lane of traffic open in each direction, the release said. Flaggers will direct traffic as necessary, and drivers are urged to use caution and follow traffic zone speed limits, which will be enforced.

Work is to be completed by fall 2014.

For more information, contact the Will County Highway Department at 815-727-8476 or Joliet's Department of Public Works at 815-724-4200.

I completely agree wtih the walkway over the expressway. There are wonderful bike trails that you cannot get to without risking your life, no matter if you try to go down Caton Farm rd or Black road. Having a walkway over either of these would be great.

A walkway & a median are desperately needed, yes. But as someone who cannot get to her home without going down this stretch of Caton Farm, I can say that this is also incredibly necessary. It should have been done years ago, before they opened Plainfield South. Hopefully they will also put up some gates at the train tracks - this is dangerous enough for experienced drivers, let alone the student drivers! The intersection has needed to be repaved for a few years and the congestion is absurd.

Holly, AMEN!! I hate that section of Caton Farm there are always accidents because of someone trying to turn across traffic. The next few months will stink but in the end it will soo be worth it!!

People have no Common Sense and if you're an Idiot if you try to turn onto B.P. from the North side of Caton Farm Road,

I'm glad this work is finally getting done but I'd be really appreciated if they open up four lanes for the winter. But we really do need that bridge crosswalk and median done as soon as possible. It's only a matter of time before somebody gets seriously hurt or killed
