The unpaid positions require a background or expertise in such subjects as architecture, art history and finance.

Applicants are being sought to serve on the Plainfield Historic Preservation Commission.

Commission members attend meetings each month to review applications and make recommendations on preservation issues in the community, according to a news release from village spokesman Amy De Boni.

A commissioner is required to have an open mind, demonstrated interest, an understanding of the village's Preservation Ordinance, and to apply individual judgment in the public interest while fostering an intellectual and factual examination of the issues together with other commissioners in a public setting, De Boni wrote.
