New Filing Date for April Election; Plainfield-Area Candidates Have Until Dec. 26

Deadline was extended for candidates for village, library, school board, park district offices.

Candidates won’t have to rush to get their nominating petitions in by Christmas Eve. The deadline to file for the April 9, 2013 consolidated election has been extended to Dec. 26.

Originally, the deadline was set for 5 p.m. Dec. 24. Now, the last day to file petitions is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26.

The first day to file is Dec. 17.

In Plainfield, nominating petition packets became available Sept. 25 for the following offices:

  • Village of Plainfield – offices up for election are village president and three trustee positions (four-year terms)
  • Plainfield Public Library Board of Trustees – four seats (with four-year terms) on the board are up for election
  • Plainfield School District 202 Board of Education – four seats (four-year terms) are up for election 
  • Plainfield Park District Board of Commissioners - two spots (six-year terms) are up for election

The process for running for township offices is a bit different than for other local governing bodies. Political parties in Plainfield and Wheatland townships will caucus to choose their candidates:

The parties will choose their candidates for supervisor, clerk, highway commissioner, tax collector, trustees and assessor on Dec. 4:

  • Plainfield Township Republicans – 6:30 p.m. at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Dr., Plainfield
  • Plainfield Township Democrats – 6:30 p.m. at Plainfield Academy, 23930 W. Lockport St., Plainfield
  • Wheatland Township Republicans – 6:15 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Middle School, 12350 Essington Rd., Plainfield
  • Wheatland Township Democrats – 7 p.m. at Wheatland Democratic Party Offices, 4003 Plainfield-Naperville Rd., Suite 105, Naperville
