New WM Trash Carts Coming This Week

Residents will have a chance to switch the wheeled carts for a larger or smaller size in April.

The much-anticipated will be delivered to Plainfield homes this week, starting Monday.

Waste Management delivery crews are starting with the south side of the village and will work their way north, dropping off nearly 24,000 of the 96-gallon wheeled carts, according to a press lease from the .

“This is going to be a major improvement to our recycling and waste collection programs,” Mayor Michael Collins said in the release. “It will be easier for residents to move their materials to the curb, and the new carts, with lids to control litter, will mean Plainfield is a cleaner community.”

Waste Management has found that recycling has increased in municipalities where the wheeled totes are available, the release said.

The carts will be delivered with information regarding the new program. Residents who have more garbage than can be contained in the 96-gallon cart are asked to place it in rigid 32-gallon containers or in bags next to the cart on collection day.

Residents who think they would prefer a size are asked to use the carts they receive for a few weeks before requesting any changes. (The same is also true for someone who asked for a 64-gallon tote and find they prefer the larger size.)

There will be a complimentary cart exchange for residents who want a different size, but they must contact Waste Management at 800-796-9696 by April 6. The cart exchanges will be done the week of April 9.
