I understand, Frank. I didn't mean to be a pill and I apologize if I was. It's just lately I'm trying to cultivate an approach of engagement where it's reasonable to have one. Sort of a spin on the idiom "better the Devil you know". And, better the angels you know, too, I bet.

The Mayor has been as silent as last night's tornado sirens. There just seems to be too much of an "effem" approach to the concerns of the citizens lately and it's despicable. I cannot work within that system. Do we not call out the bad actors? At least Tony Fremarek did. At least Tom Cross and Jennifer Bertino Tarrant did. Do we only sound the tornado sirens if the storm is an F-3 or better? Why panic people over a lousy F-1? Do we just have coffee and pretend? This is BS Vicky, and you know it. I understand trying to work within the system, but you have to have a system first to work within. We apparently have no system. With all due respect, Ma'am.

No hard feelings on this between you and me at all, Frank. We differ, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's probably better to have lots of approaches to any problem--and we agree there are problems--we'll get better solutions that way.

Another item that needs attention involves the morphing of our home town police department into a quasi- paramilitary organization preoccupied with their toys (MRAPS, Rambo outfits, dogs, HYBRID mobile video trailers, humvees etc.). Apparently good old fashion police patrolling like getting to know their village and neighbors is too boring and beneath their dignity to do. Instead they offer 1,000 rewards, berate citizens for not locking their doors and occupy themselves playing games harassing law abiding citizens with road blocks, video surveillance, seat belt tickets, and railroad tickets. As is always the case it isn’t the rank and file but rather the bizarre leadership that causes the problems (not sounding the tornado sirens) and until and unless they are changed out things will continue to get worse!

And lets not forget during the next snowstorm, that you need to just pay more attention for snow-blocked traffic lights. Including the lights you can't ever see because they are pointing at cross-traffic. Maybe just say a prayer that they are clear, and everyone else coming at a right angle to you in a 1-ton+ vehicle is paying as much attention as you are. Does anyone seriously not see a seriously troubling pattern developing here? But hey, village hall got remodeled, and the police chief got some new toy cameras to watch you with. That's really all that matters.
