No Raises for Will County Board Members, Officials

The Will County Board on Thursday morning failed to approve proposed salary increases for board members and elected officials.

On the table was an increase from $23,000 to $24,500 for county board members in 2016, plus another hike to $24,000 in 2017.

Another proposal to give raises to three positions up for election this year — county clerk, treasurer and sheriff — would have increased the clerk and treasurer's pay from around $93,000 to $97,500 in 2016. In 2017, their pay would have gone up to $99,000.

Meanwhile, the proposal called for the sheriff to get a $10,000 raise from $110,000 to $120,000 after the November election.

All of the increases were effectively shot down Thursday morning when motions to approve the raises failed to be seconded during the county board meeting.
